  1. I am a volunteer at TIRR hospital and concerned about the lack of recycling (paper, plastics, metal) in the institution.

I’d like to start a discussion on starting (or re-starting?) a recycling program for TIRR.

  2. I just started my postdoc at the IBT here in the med center (http://ibt.tamhsc.edu/) and there is NO RECYCLING here at all! How can we get recycling started at this location?

  3. It’s great to hear of your interest in recycling. I would like to see more cities in Texas emulate the environmental awareness I found while I was living in Austin.

Anyways, the key person I spoke with to initiate TIRR recycling was Jaime Flores, the TIRR Director of Environmental Services. After speaking to him, I learned that because TIRR is a small campus (small waste output) recycling was not cost effective.

In the end, we were able to collaborate our recycling efforts with a larger entity (ie. Baylor College of Medicine campus). Actually, both TIRR and BCM were interested in collaboration, they just needed someone to get them talking. (Which can be you!)

So first you’ll need to contact the Director of Environmental Services at A&M. They will know the details of the recycling situation at your campus.
